The report card

  1. Clearing power25% of score7.0

Two suction settings. Owners generally find it effective, but you get less control than with a manual aspirator.

  2. Gentleness20% of score8.0

Two tip sizes, and listed as suitable from birth.

  3. Hygiene & cleaning20% of score7.0

Braun describes the parts as easy to clean, and John Lewis's listing recommends hand washing.

  4. Ease of use & noise15% of score8.0

Battery powered, so no mouth suction, and Braun says it works quietly.

  5. Price & running costs20% of score7.5

Fair, especially when discounted, and batteries are included.

The full review

Braun's aspirator is a compact battery-powered unit (2 x AA, included) with two suction settings and two sizes of soft tip. You place the tip at your baby's nostril, press the button and the motor does the work, which is the whole appeal if the NoseFrida's mouthpiece puts you off.

Owner feedback is broadly positive. It averages 4.2 stars from 92 reviews at John Lewis and around 4 stars across other UK retailers, with parents mentioning simple assembly and effective relief, including for reluctant toddlers.

It is a fairly basic device, though. Two settings give you less control than a manual aspirator, and like any electric model it has more parts to wash and dry. The price varies a lot too: John Lewis and Boots list it at around £32, but it's regularly under £20 at Amazon, so shop around.
