The short answer

Underneath, these are the same thermometer: the same pre-warmed ear tip, ExacTemp positioning light, Age Precision colour coding, night mode, LF40 caps and ±0.2C lab accuracy. The difference is Bluetooth. The connect sends each reading to Braun's free Family Care app, with a profile for each child, a temperature history and medication reminders. The standard 7+ only recalls the last reading.

That log earns its keep when a fever drags on for days. A GP or NHS 111 call handler will ask what the temperature has been and when you last gave medicine, which is easy to lose track of at 4am, and separate profiles help if two or three children are passing bugs around. If you'd never open the app, though, you're paying around £5 more for nothing. Both have the same limit: NICE recommends an underarm reading for babies under 4 weeks.

My call: the standard ThermoScan 7+ for most families, because it's the same thermometer for less. Get the connect if you've got more than one child or you know you'll want a timed log to read out over the phone.
