The short answer

Both are small, portable machines, but only the Hushh 2 is built to run all night. It has six sounds, including Yogasleep's Dohm fan recording, a 30, 60 or 120 minute timer or continuous play, backlit buttons, a night light, a child lock and a USB-C battery rated at up to 34 hours. The Munchkin Shhh has three sounds, switches itself off after 10, 20 or 30 minutes, and runs on two AA batteries that aren't included.

The Munchkin's party trick is its sequence: a shush to calm an upset baby, a heartbeat to lull them, then white noise to keep them settled, with a night light that can pulse in time. At around £22 it's the cheaper buy, but batteries add up if you use it daily. For about £13 more, the Hushh 2 is rechargeable, has twice the sounds and covers whole nights at home as well as trips away.

My call: the Hushh 2. The Munchkin is fine as a cheap settler for the changing bag, but not one to rely on overnight. Whichever you pick, keep the volume modest and the machine away from your baby rather than clipped to the cot.
