Snuza · Wearable Baby Monitors

Snuza Pico 2 review

An app-connected clip-on that its own maker says doesn't monitor breathing. The Hero MD is the better buy.

The full review

The Pico 2 looks like a Hero with an app. It clips onto the nappy, vibrates if it detects no movement for about 15 seconds and sounds an alert around five seconds later. It can also connect over Bluetooth to Snuza's app to show movement, sleep position, skin surface temperature and sleep information, and it's rechargeable and suitable up to six years old.

The crucial detail is in Snuza's own small print. The Pico 2 is sold as a child-care aid, not a medical device, and Snuza states that it does not measure or monitor breathing: it detects movement. That's commendably honest, and it's the main reason it scores so far below the Hero MD.

Owner feedback on Amazon UK is mixed, with some reporting constant false alarms. Because the app works over Bluetooth rather than through a Wi-Fi base station, one owner found you need to be in the same room for it to work, and another that it has to run all night on your phone. At around £120, it also costs more than the certified Hero MD.
