The full review

The BM1000 is the monitor to buy if you just want to hear your baby and don't want to think about it. MadeForMums named it the best audio-only monitor in its 2026 round-up, and it's easy to see why: it's cheap, simple and uses DECT for a clear, private connection.

VTech quotes a range of up to 50m indoors and 300m outdoors, with an out-of-range alert so you know if you've lost the signal. Five sound level lights on the parent unit show when your baby is stirring even with the volume turned down, and there's a belt clip for carrying it around.

The trade-offs are the battery and the lack of extras. The parent unit runs on rechargeable AAA batteries, and MadeForMums quotes around seven hours per charge, so it's better suited to evenings than to being carried around all day. There's no talk-back, temperature display or night light.
