The short answer

Same 2023 Fire HD 10 inside, same £199.99 price, and the same two-year worry-free guarantee and year of Amazon Kids+. So the 10.1-inch 1920 x 1200 screen, the expandable 32GB of storage and the claimed 13-hour battery are identical. What differs is the age each is pitched at, the case and the content.

The Kids edition is for three to seven-year-olds and comes in the chunky foam Kid-Proof Case. The Kids Pro is for six to 12s, with a slimmer, more grown-up case and older-child content, and it gives children more independence: they can request apps for you to approve, call approved contacts and use a filtered web browser, while you keep time limits and remote control through the Parent Dashboard. Mumsnet made the Kids Pro its best tablet for kids overall.

My call: the Kids edition for under-sixes, and it wins on the scorecard thanks to its tougher case. From about six, or for a child who'd find the foam case babyish, the Kids Pro is the one to grow into. If your child is small, the lighter, cheaper Fire HD 8 Kids is worth a look too, as John Lewis lists the HD 10 Kids at 674g.
