Baby Brezza Formula Pro Advanced review

Brilliantly automatic, but it doesn't make up formula with 70C water, so it sits outside NHS guidance.

The report card

  1. Safe prep (70C)35% of score3.0

Baby Brezza states it does not make up formula with water at 70C. It uses cooled boiled water, so there's no step that kills bacteria in the powder.

  2. Speed & ease at 3am20% of score9.0

One button mixes, warms and dispenses a bottle in seconds, anywhere from 60 to 300ml.

  3. Feed accuracy15% of score8.8

Doses powder and water automatically in 30ml steps, and Baby Brezza says it works with virtually all formula brands.

  4. Cleaning & upkeep15% of score5.5

The funnel needs cleaning every four bottles, the tank water changing daily, and Mother&Baby found cleaning time-consuming.

  5. Value & running costs15% of score5.0

About £250 for a machine that doesn't follow UK guidance is a hard sell.

The full review

The Formula Pro Advanced is hugely popular in the US, and it's easy to see why. Fill the water tank and the airtight powder container, choose one of three temperatures and a volume between 60 and 300ml, and it mixes and dispenses a warm bottle in seconds. Mother&Baby's reviewer loved the speed and consistency.

The problem for UK parents is the water temperature. Baby Brezza's own UK product page says it does not sterilise formula with water at 70C, and the machine is designed to use cooled, boiled water. NHS guidance is to make up powdered formula with water at 70C or above, because the powder isn't sterile. Baby Brezza's UK distributor points out that not every country uses the 70C rule, which is fair, but the NHS does.

It also asks a lot at the sink. Baby Brezza recommends cleaning the funnel and its cover after every four bottles and daily, changing the tank water every day, and a thorough monthly clean. Mother&Baby described cleaning as time-consuming and the machine as bulky, at 39cm tall.

I don't think it's a bad machine. It's a very good machine built for a different set of guidelines, and at around £250 that's a lot to pay for something that works against UK advice.
