The report card

  1. Picture & night vision25% of score8.3

Sharp 2.5K video; Mother&Baby praised the night vision, while MadeForMums was more measured.

  2. Connection & reliability20% of score6.2

App-only, and MadeForMums testers and owner reviews both report dropouts and glitches.

  3. Alerts & smart features15% of score8.8

Covered-face, rollover, danger zone, cry and cough detection: the fullest AI alert set here.

  4. Ease of use15% of score6.8

Cable routing during setup is fiddly, and your phone is the only screen.

  5. Privacy & security10% of score7.0

Encrypted, but entirely dependent on the cloud.

  6. Value & running costs15% of score5.6

The AI alerts need a Premium plan after the first free year, and MadeForMums rated value poorly.

The full review

CuboAi's bird-shaped camera is all about AI alerts. As well as cry detection, it can warn you if your baby's face appears covered, if they roll over, or if they move into a 'danger zone' you've drawn in the app. It also tracks sleep, estimates growth from the camera and keeps three full days of continuous video to scroll back through.

Mother&Baby's reviewer said the covered-face and rollover alerts let them respond much quicker, praised the night vision and rated it 4.5 out of 5. MadeForMums was cooler, scoring it 3.7 out of 5 after its tester had occasional connection drops and audio glitches, and noting the AI features are most useful before six months.

Running costs matter here. The first year of CuboAi Care Premium is included, but after that the AI alerts, danger zones and sleep analytics need a Premium plan from £3.75 a month, billed annually. The free Basic plan keeps cry and cough detection and three-day playback. At the time of writing, CuboAi's UK store also has a poor Trustpilot rating from a small number of reviews, with owners complaining of app disconnections and cameras failing.

If you do go for it, remember what The Lullaby Trust says: there's no research showing monitors help prevent SIDS, and no gadget replaces safe sleep practice.
