The full review

Emy is made by Fizimed, a French company, and takes a more clinical approach than Perifit. The rechargeable probe connects to a free app that shows your contractions in real time and builds personalised programmes, with sessions of five to 15 minutes. Fizimed also offers free chats with its in-house physiotherapist to help you get started.

On evidence, it's one of the few trainers with its own published research: a 2022 study followed 55 women with stress urinary incontinence who used Emy for at least 10 minutes a day, five days a week, for three months. It was a small, single-centre study without a comparison group, so treat it as encouraging rather than conclusive.

Fizimed is refreshingly clear on safety. Emy is contraindicated in pregnancy and within seven weeks of giving birth, though the app includes a childbirth preparation programme you follow without the probe. Interestingly, it deliberately doesn't claim to detect incorrect contractions, on the basis that no technology does it reliably, so you'll need to learn good technique from the app's guidance or a physio.

In the UK it's sold through Kegel8 for £142.99 including VAT. Fizimed gives a five-year guarantee on purchases from its own website; bought elsewhere, you get the standard two-year guarantee.
