The report card

  1. Feedback & guidance25% of score8.2

The same game-based app and biofeedback, but without the Care+'s extra sensors and position detection.

  2. Evidence & medical backing20% of score7.4

CE-marked medical device, with the same caveats on biofeedback evidence as its sibling.

  3. Postnatal suitability15% of score8.2

The same clear guidance: not in pregnancy, and six to eight weeks after birth with clearance.

  4. Comfort & ease of use20% of score7.2

A larger probe than the Care+ (8.3cm long, 3.1cm across), though it never needs charging.

  5. Value & ownership20% of score7.6

£119 with a 100-day trial, but only £20 less than the better Care+.

The full review

The Perifit Care is the model that made Perifit's name, and it's still sold alongside the newer Care+. It uses the same free app with games controlled by your squeezes, the same never-charge battery with a five-year battery warranty, and the same 100-day trial when bought direct.

The differences are size and sensing. The Care's insertable part is 8.3cm long and 3.1cm across, against 6.3cm and 2.7cm for the Care+, and it lacks the Care+'s extra sensors and position detection for spotting incorrect contractions. Perifit pitches the Care+ as the more precise and more challenging option, including standing workouts.

Owners rate it well, with an average of 4.4 out of 5 from about 1,700 ratings on Amazon UK. Perifit's timing guidance is identical: not in pregnancy, and wait six to eight weeks after birth for clearance from a healthcare professional.

It's a good trainer, but at £119 it's only £20 cheaper than the Care+, so I'd stretch to the newer model unless you find this one discounted.
