Fridababy 3-in-1 Air Purifier, Sound Machine & Nightlight review

An appealing nursery all-rounder that doesn't publish the numbers you need to judge it as a purifier.

The report card

  1. Hygiene & nursery safety25% of score8.5

No water involved, and Frida describes the filter as HEPA, though it doesn't state the grade.

  2. Humidity & air-quality control20% of score4.5

Three fan speeds and an auto-off timer, but no air-quality sensor.

  3. Output for a nursery15% of score4.5

No CADR or room size is published, so there's no way to compare its cleaning power.

  4. Night-time noise & light20% of score7.0

White noise and a four-colour night light, but no published noise figure.

  5. Price & running costs20% of score5.5

Cheap to buy, but a new filter every 90 days adds up.

The full review

Frida's 3-in-1 combines a small air purifier with a white noise machine (two sounds) and a night light (four colours). It has three fan speeds, an auto-off timer of 2, 4 or 8 hours, and a filter that the listing says tackles dust mites, air pollution and mould spores, among other things.

As a purifier, though, it's hard to assess. Frida describes the filter as HEPA without giving a grade, and neither Frida nor John Lewis publishes a clean air delivery rate, a room size or a noise level. Those are the three numbers I'd want before trusting a purifier to do anything useful in a bedroom. Frida also says the filter lasts 90 days, so running costs are higher than for a purifier like the Levoit Core 300S.

Owners like it: it averages 4.8 stars from 72 reviews at John Lewis, and it's a neat, compact package. If you want a sound machine and night light in one, it's appealing. If cleaner air is the point, buy a proper purifier.
