Maxi-Cosi See Pro review

A handsome hybrid with a long-lasting screen, let down by fussy alerts.

The report card

  1. Picture & night vision25% of score8.2

2K camera with a clear picture that both MadeForMums and Mother&Baby testers rated, shown on a 720p parent screen.

  2. Connection & reliability20% of score8.0

Direct link to the parent unit without Wi-Fi, quoted at 200m outdoors; MadeForMums gave the range full marks.

  3. Alerts & smart features15% of score6.6

Motion, cry, temperature and humidity alerts, but sensitivity is inconsistent and CryAssist didn't convince Mother&Baby.

  4. Ease of use15% of score7.8

Quick to set up, but the buttons aren't backlit and the notification tone is loud.

  5. Privacy & security10% of score8.2

The parent unit works entirely offline; the app is optional.

  6. Value & running costs15% of score6.8

Around £220, with a subscription for its headline feature and no microSD card in the box.

The full review

The See Pro is Maxi-Cosi's hybrid monitor: a 2K pan-and-tilt camera, a 5-inch parent unit that connects directly without Wi-Fi, and the Connected Home app for viewing on your phone. It looks the part too, with a wooden base that feels more like nursery furniture than a gadget.

The parent unit is its best feature. Maxi-Cosi quotes 72 to 96 hours of battery with sleep mode on, and MadeForMums' tester was impressed by both the battery and the range, though Mother&Baby found it needed charging more often with heavy use. Mother&Baby described the image quality as excellent, with baby's breathing clearly visible.

The headline feature is CryAssist, which uses AI to suggest whether a cry means hungry, sleepy, gassy, fussy or agitated. It's free for six months and then needs a subscription, and Mother&Baby's reviewer found it ineffective. Both reviews flagged inconsistent alert sensitivity, and MadeForMums noted the buttons aren't backlit and the notification tone is loud.

Worth knowing: Maxi-Cosi has just launched a See 2 range in the UK, so the original See Pro makes most sense when it's discounted.
