The full review

The Freestyle Mini Classic is Medela's new compact double pump, and it has effectively taken the long-running Swing Maxi's slot in Medela's UK shop. The motor unit weighs just 215g, hangs on a lanyard or sits in your hand, and charges by USB. Medela quotes up to 1.5 hours of pumping, or about six sessions, per charge.

It uses Medela's 2-Phase Expression rhythm with nine pre-programmed settings and a simple four-button interface. There are three main parts to clean, all dishwasher safe, and you get both 21mm and 24mm PersonalFit Flex shields, which rotate to find a comfortable angle. Add Medela's Hands-free Collection Cups (sold separately) and it becomes a hands-free pump.

It only arrived in the UK in summer 2026, so there's little independent testing yet, and Medela doesn't publish a suction figure or noise level on its UK page. The fundamentals are familiar Medela, though, and the price is low: £129 RRP and often around £110 direct from Medela.

Medela says double pumping gets up to 18% more milk in half the time compared with single pumping. That's the maker's figure, but the time saving alone makes a double worthwhile if you pump regularly.

Pros and cons
